History
Edouard de Paris – over 50 years of Styling
Poland to Paris, France
In 1937, a sixteen year-old teenager in Warsaw, Poland named Edward Gruszka began his career as a hairstylist apprentice to Cleo.
In Paris, at the age of 24, Edouard commences his formal hair stylist career with the famous master, Antoine de Paris – the pre-eminent name in hair styling in Paris with a trademark for elegance. His experience in “The city of Lights” was so profound he adopted the Edouard de Paris moniker for the beauty trade.
Venezuela
In 1947, Edouard departs to Venezuela. It was there he revolutionized the Beauty Industry by offering women a European Salon / Beauty experience in a fine, elegant “never seen before” ambiance. Edouard De Paris, “Estudio de Belleza” was born. The Salon was located in the exclusive Avila Hotel owned by Nelson Rockefeller.
In a shooting for a TV commercial for Edouard's Salon, he meets Olga Macia a Cuban model and owner of her own Modeling Agency in Venezuela. Their attraction was “first sight”- they married, and began a new chapter in the business.
Edouard went on to open another Studio on the Gran Avenida, which became the learning institution for upcoming hairdressers. He also founded the Hair Stylists Association in Venezuela.
New York
In 1957 Edouard De Paris Salon opens at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. It was there he met the Great Conrad Hilton who persuades him to create a new Edouard Studio in the great Havana Hilton, in Cuba.
The 1959 rise of Fidel Castro caused Edouard's exit to New York and into Helena Rubenstein's hands becoming her Salon Director.
The Caribbean
The following year, Edouard and Olga decided to invest in the dynamic growth potential of Puerto Rico and moved back to the Caribbean to create the first chain of salons with a European flair…what Edouard refers to as the “Savoir Faire” (a distinctive touch).
Edouard De Paris has graced some of the finest hotels in the Caribbean such as: the Hiltons in Curacao, Aruba; Caracas, Venezuela; Ponce & San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Edouard has styled “la crème de la crème”such as the Dutchess of Windsor, Rita Hayward, Linda Dardner, Christian Dior Models, and many more famous people.
In the year 2001, Edouard de Paris evolved as the new generation stepped in and acquired the business from the parents with a commitment to maintaining Edouard's Beauty & Wellness Legacy.
Carlos Padial, son of Olga and Edouard, and Susan Sotomayor took on this endeavor. Susan brings 20+ years of marketing & advertising experience and an English and Puerto Rican background from her parents. Carlos, a committed business owner who grew up in the beauty industry, contributes a strong administrative background. They form a great combination, focusing on providing the Salon and Spa's clients an exquisite beauty and wellness experience in a classic ambiance honoring the vision and style of the father and founder, Edouard De Paris.
Today - Puerto Rico & Miami, Florida
Edouard De Paris Salon & Spa currently have two locations in Puerto Rico: the El Conquistador Resort, Las Croabas & the El San Juan Hotel.
Edouard De Paris houses a salon and spa at Collins in Miami Beach.
